2 bridge replacement plans will be on display

From staff reports

Plans for a bridge replacement project along Route 8 in Barkeyville will be on display for the public to view from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on three Tuesdays starting Oct. 17 and continuing through Oct. 31.

The bridge, over the East Branch of Wolf Creek, is located about one-third of a mile north of the Interstate 80 interchange.

The 19-foot-long concrete slab bridge was built in 1939 and rehabilitated in 1961.  The bridge is classified as structurally deficient, according to PennDOT,

The project will replace the existing bridge with a 17-foot-long concrete box culvert.  The bridge is used by about 7,000 vehicles a day.

Construction is expected to occur during the summer of 2018.

The plans for the Route 8 bridge project will be on display at the Barkeyville Borough Building, 5404 Pittsburgh Road.

Richland Township

PennDOT also will display plans for a bridge replacement project along Route 38 in Richland Township.

The bridge, over Richey Run, is located about 1.4 miles north of Route 208.  The bridge is a 14-foot-long concrete slab structure, which was built in 1922 and is classified as structurally deficient. On average, about 1,100 vehicles a day use the bridge, PennDOT said.

The bridge will be replaced with a 12-foot-long reinforced concrete box culvert, with construction expected to take place in the summer of 2018.

Plans for this project will be on display from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. over four Thursdays, starting Oct. 19 and continuing through Nov. 9, at the Richland Township building, 1740 Rockland-Nickleville Road, Emlenton.

The plans are made available to the public so PennDOT can receive public input regarding questions or concerns regarding historic or archaeological sites in the area of the project that could be affected by the work.
