Annual Nick of Time gift drive underway

From staff reports

The annual In the Nick of Time campaign, a community project designed to provide area teenagers with holiday gifts, is underway.

Gifts for the effort can be dropped off from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, during a get-together at the Double Play sports bar and restaurant in Oil City.

The initiative honors the memory of Nick Sanford, a Cranberry High School student who died in 2003.

Sanford’s family and friends team up every year with Community Services of Venango County to collect the gifts, and this is the 18th year for the effort.

Stacey Salsgiver, who is Nick Sanford’s mother, owns Double Play along with her husband, Jim, and the couple coordinate the drive every year and host the party at their business.

Those who attend that day are asked to take an unwrapped, teenager-appropriate gift. The gifts will be matched to names and ages of boys and girls ages 13 to 18 on the Community Services list.

Anyone who can’t make it to the Dec. 18 gathering can drop off a gift or donation at the restaurant during business hours.
