A body was found Monday in the vicinity of Fisherman’s Cove Road, according to Venango County Coroner Christina Rugh.
Rugh confirmed with the newspaper Friday that the body was found and that an autopsy was performed Tuesday. Rugh was unable to provide an identity of the victim at this time.
Speculation on social media has led some to connect the body to the disappearance of Jason Firster, of Oil City, who is believed to have fallen from the Wye Bridge in Oil City the night of Jan. 7. Police conducted extensive searches of the river in the days following Firster’s disappearance, but they were eventually brought to a halt the next week due to incoming winter weather.
No official confirmation of the body’s identity or a possible connection to Firster was available as of 1:20 p.m.
