‘Cat Initiative’ advances in Clarion to address stray problem

Clarion Borough is moving forward with a humane plan to address its growing feral cat population through a trap-neuter-release program led by volunteers from the Clarion Cat Initiative Group, Clarion PAWS and the tri-County Animal Shelter. The group hopes to spay or neuter up to 50 cats a month, starting in areas such as the old glass plant, Wood Street and near Clarion University, using about $15,000 in initial funding while seeking donations to sustain the effort. Officials say the approach will help slow rapid population growth and reduce health and ecological concerns, though noticeable results could take up to a year. In other business, council approved purchasing a fully equipped 2026 police cruiser through the COSTARS program for $58,635 and authorized seeking bank loan proposals for the purchase.
