County plans food distribution program

From staff reports

The Venango County Emergency Food and Shelter Program will sponsor a county-wide food distribution in December.

Items will include ham, milk, apples, potatoes, bread, eggs, celery, onions and oranges.

The program anticipates that 850 households will benefit from the distribution.

Program registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at Franklin First Baptist Church at 1041 Liberty St. and at Christ Episcopal Church, 16 Central Ave., Oil City.

The distributed vouchers may be redeemed at local grocery stores Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 20-22.

The program is limited to eligible Venango County residents. At the time of registration, participants must sign a declaration of need certifying that their household income falls at or below 150 percent of the current poverty level.

Vouchers will be distributed one per household.

Funding for the program is through the state Department of Agriculture’s State Food Purchase Program.
