Venango Technology Center sent two Cranberry High School students to the Steamfitters Union facility in Harmony on Jan. 10 for the Skills USA District 10 competition.

Mason Brown, a senior at Cranberry, competed in a Three-Man Fabrication Team that included Dillion Morrison and Cam Crocker, who are both seniors at Oil City Area High School. They competed against five other teams and built a weld stand within a three-hour time limit, becoming the Gold Medal winners.

“It’s hard work but I enjoy it,” said Brown.

A second Cranberry senior, Alex Tafoya, competed against 10 other students in the “All Around Welders Competition” and won first place.

Tafoya, Brown, Morrison, and Crocker won the skills competition in March and will be competing in Georgia at nationals over the summer.
