Ella McNellie annual toy drive is Sunday

From staff reports

The eighth annual Ella McNellie Toy Drive will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Cranberry Mall.

The annual event is held in memory of a local girl who died in 2011 from a rare form of cancer. Ella, who lived in Oil City, was 7 years old when she passed away. She fought her disease called rhabdomyosarcoma for five years.

The toys collected on Sunday will be given to patients at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, where Ella received her care.

Her parents, Jessica and Chad McNellie, established the toy drive to honor the memory of Ella and other cancer patients.

All toy donations are required by Children’s Hospital to be new, in the original package and unwrapped.

Donations can be dropped off Sunday in the area of the mall’s main entrance.
