Franklin freshman wins Propaganda tournament

Freshman David Ferraro won a Gold Thinker award for achieving the highest score in Propaganda.

A Franklin High School freshman emerged as the nation’s best player of Propaganda last week at the 52nd National Academic Games Tournament held at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, West Virginia.

David Ferraro amassed the highest score among 129 of the nation’s best players over four rounds of the game Propaganda.Ferraro’s score helped his team to an eighth place finish.

Propaganda is a question and response game where players learn to recognize techniques of persuasion that are often used by advertisers, politicians, editorial writers and in normal human interaction.

Ferraro has competed at the national tournament each year since the sixth grade.

He said Propaganda has been one of his favorite games throughout his Academic Games career.

The Academic Games Leagues of America sponsors the tournament annually to showcase the talents of the top players in each of seven games. Students compete against students from about 30 leagues in Propaganda, Equations, Onsets, Presidents, LinguiSHTIK and World Events.
