Franklin Liberty Fest parade winners announced

The City of Franklin events and marketing office has announced the winners of this year’s Liberty Fest parade, which took place Saturday.

The overall winner for the parade, whose theme this year was “Bold Stripes, Bright Stars and Brave Hearts,” was Milestone Pediatric Therapy.

In first place was Our Community Salutes, followed by the Venango County dairy princess in second place. RAACA (Riders Advocating Against Child Abuse) took third place, and the Venango County Democrats rounded off the awards in fourth place.

Pat Dolecki, the city’s events and marketing coordinator, said the floats are judged for several different categories that include originality, crowd appeal, theme, workmanship, color and overall effect.

In the workmanship category, Dolecki added that this year there was “a lot of lenience there because of the rain.”

“Some of the floats may have been a little droopy after they got wet,” she said. “For the most part, they did a very good job.”

Meanwhile, the city’s Liberty Fest celebration was scheduled to continue Monday evening with the annual pet show put on by the Franklin Fine Arts Council and Venango County Humane Society, but the show was postponed due to the threat of thunderstorms.

A new date will be announced as soon as it is known, Dolecki said.

In the meantime, Taste of Talent is scheduled to start Wednesday evening at 7 p.m., and the forecast is calling for cloudy skies with only a “slight chance” of showers possible earlier in the day.
