Franklin schools OK budget with no tax hike

The Franklin Area School Board on Monday evening approved the proposed budget for the next school year as submitted, which includes no increase in taxes.

The budget contains anticipated revenues of $37,819,921 and expenditures of $39,035,587, resulting in a draw-down of $1,215,666. The real estate millage would remain at 17.9469.

In addition, an agreement approved at last week’s work session meeting, between Strongland Roofing Systems and the district for $206,972, to repair the roof over the kindergarten wing at Sandycreek Elementary School awaits arrival of materials.

Recognition

Acting Superintendent Thomas Holoman recognized and congratulated Franklin Area High School’s baseball and softball teams on their seasons and playoff opportunities.

Holoman announced the Madrigal Singers will perform in New York City at Carnegie Hall in late May and the Black Knight Marching Band will perform in the Memorial Day parade in Washington, D.C.

The 146 students in the 2022 graduating class were also recognized and congratulated by Holoman.

Other business

Items approved by the board: the general fund and treasurer’s reports as of May and April, summer school staffing and supplemental contracts for the 2022-23 school year at the elementary schools and high school, summer school programs, resurfacing the high school running track and the extended school year program for students with special needs.

Additional approvals included the food service management agreement with Metz Culinary, professional software for staff nurses, school health services, and the virtual academy services agreement between the Franklin Area and Warren County school districts.
