Curtis

Little Curtis, the Maltese puppy, is doing very well in his foster home, Safehaven Small Breed Rescue of Tionesta posted earlier this week on Facebook.

He has learned to not only walk but run on three legs – he was born with a deformity of the elbow of his left front leg, the rescue said.

Curtis is scheduled to be neutered on Nov. 1 and will be looking for a forever family of his very own.

Interested persons may email safehavensbr@gmail.com for an application.

Safehaven Small Breed Rescue is located at 318 Barber Drive, Tionesta. It can be reached by phone at (814) 463-5004. More information about the rescue is available on its website at

A Face you won’t forget

Face

The Venango County Humane Society in Seneca has Face and gentle giant Titan available for adoption.

Face, an American Staffordshire Terrier mix, is a 7-year-old neutered male. He has a tan and white coat and dark brown eyes. When outside Face is happy to see you and responds well to his handler, the shelter said. He’s been leash trained and house trained. Face will be an excellent outdoor companion, keeping you company as you walk through the neighborhood or several miles on the bike trail, according to the shelter. His short coat requires little maintenance. This handsome terrier will be a loyal friend to the lucky person or family who takes him home, the shelter said.

Titan

Titan, an 8- to 9-year-old Mastiff, has a tan, black and cream coat. He’s calm, good natured and gentle, according to the shelter. Titan will need a moderate daily walk and a soft place to stretch out inside, the shelter said. Mastiffs are devoted to their families and good with children. Titan’s coat care is minimal.

The humane society is open from noon to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. It is located at 286 S. Main St., Seneca. More information on the Venango County Humane Society is available by calling (814) 677-4040 or online at venangocountyhumanesociety.org.

Meanwhile, the Venango County Humane Society is holding a Halloween Pet Costume photo contest. There are two categories.

1. Shelter dogs and cats are ones that were adopted from the Venango County Humane Society.

2. All area dogs and cats can enter this contest – no matter where they were rescued or “homed.”

Rules and guidelines are:

Submit a photo of one’s cat or dog in their favorite Halloween costume by Oct. 31.

Only one entry (dog or cat) per family or household.

Entries can be submitted at venangocountyhumanesociety@gmail.com or by taking photos to the shelter. Photos need to include the pet owner’s name, email address and phone number.

 Scaring up some photos

rosyandmissy

Christy Fackler with Precious Paws Animal Rescue posted on Facebook about her foster kittens Rosy and Missy. “Lots of morning rough housing led to nap time for Rosy and Missy,” Fackler posted. Rosy and Missy are available for adoption through Precious Paws Animal Rescue. Adoption applications can be found online at pparfranklin.com/adopt/.

Precious Paws Animal Rescue in Franklin is still collecting photos for its Halloween pet photo contest and there is a new Facebook group for people interested in volunteering with Precious Paws.

Theresa Weldon posted that the group will be used for posting volunteer opportunities for people 10 years old and older. The opportunities range from serving as a foster or a helper at events, like bake sales, craft shows or SNYP clinics. The link to the group is www.facebook.com/groups/pparvolunteers.

The rescue has been receiving pet photos for its contest. However, it seems to becoming up a little short on the feline entries.

People may enter a photo of your dog, cat, ferret, pet in his or her Halloween costume, along with the pet’s name, age, breed/description, and the persons name, phone number, email and address.

There will be a folder on the Precious Paws Animal Rescue Group page with all of the photos. People will be able to vote for their favorite pet costume.

There will be a top vote getter in Dog, Cat, and Other (other will include farm animals, ferrets, rabbits, basically anything that isn’t a dog or cat) from Oct. 20-30. Contest winners will be announced on Oct. 31 just in time for Halloween, the rescue said.

Top winners in each category will receive gift baskets of goodies.

To submit a photo, people can email to AdoptPreciousPaws@gmail.com, text to (814) 671-9827 or send photos to the Facebook group page.

Precious Paws will also hold a “Howloween” dog party from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at its SNYP Clinic, 720 Atlantic Ave., Franklin.

Those attending should take a donation of cat food for the rescue’s pet food bank.

Precious Paws can be reached by phone at (814) 671-9827 or by email at AdoptPreciousPaws@gmail.com. More information about the group and its low-cost spay neuter program, SNYP, can be found online at pparfranklin.com or on the group’s Facebook page.

The young and the young at heart

tobyerin

Toby and Erin

Clarion PAWS in Shippenville has many kittens up for adoption and some older residents who need homes as well.

Toby (left) and Erin are just two of the many kittens the rescue has searching for homes right now.

“Don’t let this picture fool you, these two love to play but had just spent two hours distracting volunteers,” the shelter posted.

“We have so many kittens this year that we have two kitten rooms,” the shelter posted earlier this week on Facebook.

The kittens vary in age from three months to about six months.

Meanwhile, the shelter is in need of Purina Kitten Chow (the yellow bag) to help feed all these feisty kittens.

marleena

Marleena

The shelter also posted at Marleena.

“With the weather getting colder and the holidays approaching some of our longer term residents, such as Marleena, are ready for the purrfect place to call home,” it posted.

“Marleena is a very sweet girl who loves to investigate. She opens doors if they are not locked and checks out what’s happening at the PAWS house,” the shelter said.

Marleena has been with PAWS a little over two years and “while she loves us she is ready for one on one time with her furrever family,” the shelter said.

Clarion PAWS is located at 11348 Route 322, Shippenville, Clarion River Hill, between Scrap Happy and Clarion Electric. The adoption center is open from 5 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The center is closed Fridays and Sundays.

More information is available online at www.clarionpaws.org, the group’s Facebook page or by calling (814) 229-1231.

Rabies clinic slated

Clarion PUPS will hold a rabies clinic from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Clarion PUPS Property, 483 Pine Street Ext, P.O. Box 51, Strattanville.

Dr. Debbie McClaine DVM will administer the shots.

All pets must be on a leash or in a carrier. The clinic is open to dogs and cats and the cost is $15 per rabies shot. A previous rabies certificate must be provided in order for the shots to be considered a three year vaccine – otherwise all shots are one year.

Proceeds benefit Clarion PUPS. More information is available on the group’s Facebook page.
