Group’s event in Clarion to draw awareness to human trafficking

PASSAGES Inc. and its Teen Advocacy Group (TAG) are bringing the Red Sand Project to Clarion on July 30 to raise awareness about human trafficking by pouring red sand into sidewalk cracks — a symbolic act representing individuals who fall through the cracks of society. The biodegradable, non-toxic sand will be spread along Main Street, Fifth Avenue, Veterans Memorial Park, and around the Venango County Courthouse. TAG hopes the visual will spark conversation and promote solidarity with trafficking survivors, emphasizing that trafficking happens even in small communities. They also plan to launch a podcast, “Speak Up! Teen Advocates in Action,” in August. During the same Clarion Borough Council meeting, council approved multiple business items including a $5,000 grant for a community mural for the nation’s 250th birthday, technology and furniture upgrades, road closures for a church picnic, and playground improvement plans. The council also announced a vacancy on the Storm Water Authority and reminded residents the drop-off site is for borough residents only. Council also accepted the upcoming retirement of William R. Scheckler, effective Aug. 9.
