Valley Grove School Board members voted unanimously Monday to petition the Venango County Court to hold a public hearing regarding the sale of the former Rocky Grove Elementary School property to the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) Foundation.

“This is just the next step in the process,” Superintendent Kevin Briggs said.

The VNA Foundation plans to purchase the property for $64,000 and place a hospice facility there.

“The courts will let us know when that public hearing has been scheduled,” Briggs said.

Briggs said in June that a survey of the property would be conducted by Matt Tarr, the school district’s grounds manager.

“We just wanted an accurate drawing of the boundaries,” Briggs said. “They conducted the survey to etch out the part of the property that we will be retaining,” Briggs added.

Board member Vance Mays added at Monday’s meeting that he thinks it is good for the community to have the hospice house on that property.

In other business Monday, the board decided to table a technology plan that was proposed at last week’s meeting until board members can review the plan further.

“It was a good collaboration between the board and the teachers,” Briggs said. “The members (of the board) had some really good suggestions for goals.”

The board will next meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, in the Rocky Grove High School library.
