Authorities found human remains in a shallow grave on property off of West Middlesex Road in Shenango Township, Mercer County, according to WFMJ-TV.
Sharon Police Chief Gerald Smith and Shenango Township Police Chief Jason Newton spoke to reporters Wednesday night about what they have been calling an “active major crime scene,” according to WFMJ sources.
The police chiefs said that the remains are from one body.
There is an idea of how long the body has been there but that information is being withheld at this time.
At this point, officials are not calling this a homicide.
More information was announced during a news conference earlier today at the Shenango Township police department.
Reports say investigators are searching the property which contains a house, barn and several buildings.
