Today marks the 15th anniversary of Kate Newman Day in Oil City, honoring the life and legacy of the late Oil City native who returned home after a successful business career and devoted her later years to civic service. Newman launched the city’s Main Street Program in 2001, which continues to drive downtown revitalization, historic preservation and community events, while also volunteering extensively with local organizations. Her impact also lives on through the Katherine A. Newman Protocol at UPMC Northwest, developed to improve care for non-ambulatory patients. Newman’s sister, Deborah Gale, said the annual observance serves as a reminder that small, dedicated acts of service can create meaningful and lasting change in a community.
