Light-up Night among Cooperstown holiday events

From staff reports

Cooperstown Borough will hold several holiday activities this week, including its Christmas Island Light-up Night on Saturday.

Activities will kick off from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday with a gingerbread house story and decorating contest hosted by the Cooperstown Library.

The contest is for all ages and the houses will be judged by the community during Light-up Night festivities. The library also will host a Christmas tree decorating contest, with members of the community voting for their favorite. Anyone interested in these two events should contact the Cooperstown Library.

Breakfast with Santa ushers in Light-up Night festivities at 9 a.m. Saturday. The breakfast is hosted by the Cooperstown Presbyterian Church and sponsored by the Cooperstown Christmas Island Committee.

Christmas Island lights up at 6 p.m. Saturday, with Santa arriving on a Cooperstown Volunteer Fire Department truck.

This year, Christmas Island has new additions, courtesy of the Frank and Eleanor Meese Fund, which is administered by the Bridge Builders Community Foundations. A bake sale will be held during the evening at the fire hall, with proceeds benefiting future Light-up Nights.

In addition, a live, walk-through Bethlehem village experience will be available from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday, at 216 N Main St. Cooperstown.

The village is an annual event hosted by the Evangelistic Tabernacle Ministries. Expanded parking with shuttle service is available at the Community Church of God, 1651 Route 427, Cooperstown.

All activities are free and open to the public.
