Local Zonta Club observes International Women’s Day today

From staff reports

The Zonta Club of Oil City-Franklin and Zonta International are participating in today’s global celebration of International Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day is observed annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women’s rights movement.

The movement brings attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.

This year’s International Women’s Day global campaign theme is #EmbraceEquity.

The Zonta community also marks March 8 as Zonta Rose Day, a time to reflect on past achievements and honor the current efforts of individuals working toward gender equity.

Zonta International started in 1919, and the Oil City-Franklin club started in 1975.

The Oil City-Franklin Zonta officers include president Deb Lutz, vice president Maureen James, secretary Rebekah Deal and treasurer Loretta Strawbridge.

The group’s monthly meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Belle Lettres Club in Oil City.
