Meeting planned for Franklin ‘Our Town’ spotlight

From staff reports

Franklin area residents with a knack for storytelling are asked to attend an upcoming community meeting for the city’s debut on the WQLN documentary series “Our Town.”

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Franklin City Hall council chambers with producers from the series.

“They’re looking for anyone who wants to be involved. I would love to see a mix of everybody there,” said Franklin Area Chamber of Commerce executive director Jodi Lewis.

The WQLN crew will gather around 30 community members to share their stories through on-camera interviews, photographs and collected videos.

Story topics are entirely the participants’ choice and are limited only by the storytellers’ creativity and investigative ingenuity, according to a WQLN press release.

Past “Our Town” stories have included favorite recreational activities, local eats and drinks, arts and culture, noteworthy architecture, community grassroots projects, historic events, famous residents past and present, rite of passage “hijinks” and snapshots of everyday community life, the press release said.

Those who miss the Aug. 1 community planning meeting but who want to be part of the project may pick up an information packet at the Franklin Public Library, 421 12th St., Franklin, following the community meeting.

Towns previously featured on the series have included Oil City, Titusville, Meadville and Corry.

“Our Town: Stories from Franklin” is slated to premiere at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, on WQLN TV 54, with live streaming at WQLN.org.
