An Ohio man on a motorcycle suffered fatal injuries after he crashed his vehicle amid leading police on a chase on Friday evening.
According to Franklin state police, the chase began when Thomas Swearingen, 59, of Masury, fled from Oil City police after police observed a motor vehicle violation at about 9 p.m. Friday.
State police said Swearingen was traveling east in the 2500 block of Route 62 in Cranberry Township when his 2000 Yamaha Roadstar 1600 left the roadway, traveled up an embankment and entered a wooded area.
The motorcycle then struck multiple trees before landing in a culvert ditch, state police said, and Swearingen died as a result of the crash.
Seneca Volunteer Fire Department, Community Ambulance Service and Venango County Coroner Christina Rugh also responded to the scene, according to state police.
