Nifty at 90: Man known for being a great storyteller

Clayton L. “Bud” Maxon is celebrating his 90th birthday, having led a rich and varied life. Born in Waynesburg to Clayton and Martha Maxon, he moved frequently due to his father’s job with Standard Oil, attending 12 schools across five states. After graduating from Clarion High School in 1953, Bud served in the U.S. Navy and married Nancy Haggerty in 1954, with whom he had three children and shared 48 years of marriage until her passing in 2002. He worked at a Texaco station and Bethlehem Steel before becoming a barber and later a truck driver until his retirement in 1994. Bud remarried in 2004 to Betty Latchaw, and they enjoy home improvement projects and spending time with their border collies. Known for his storytelling and humor, Bud has many hobbies including hunting, fishing, and working on cars. He is cherished by his family, including seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, as well as his numerous friends.
