OC couple plan car wash for woman battling cancer

From staff reports

An Oil City couple who own a business in the city’s East End are holding a charity car wash Sunday to help an Oil City woman with expenses as she battles stage four breast cancer that has spread.

Ray and Heather Swem, owners of the SouthSide Auto Detailing and Reconditioning at 309 E. Second St., will hold the event at their business. The Marvic Tavern next door is joining in the effort by providing food and drinks for donations.

“This will benefit Robin Bateman,” said Heather Swem. “She had gone through so many treatments, needs round-the-clock care, transportation and more. We are not going to tell them how to spend what we raise because they have gone through enough. Whatever makes their lives easier.”

The cost for a complete hands-on wash, waxing and tire cleaning will range from $20 to $30, an in-house fare that is specifically designed “to raise money for Robin,” said Swem.

The event begins at 10 a.m. and will extend through the afternoon.

“We have volunteers, mostly family and friends, but we invite anyone who would like to help to just come,” said Swem. “All the proceeds will go to her family.”
