OC Hope 21 Ministry collecting for Dress For You giveaway

Hope 21 Ministry in Oil City is collecting dresses for its second “A Dress For You” event.

Hope 21 is looking for formal dresses, dress shoes, clutch purses and unused makeup and nail polish for the giveaway, which will be held March 17 and 18 at Hope 21 in the National Transit Building.

Collection times will be from 10 a.m. to noon one week from today and then again on Saturday, March 4, at Hope 21.

Drop off boxes for donations for the event will be located at the Oil City YMCA, Oil City YWCA, Cross & Co. in Seneca and Crissman’s Britches in Franklin.

Hope 21’s first A Dress For You last year attracted big crowds of girls looking for formal dresses, shoes and other accessories for free, with no strings attached.

About 500 dresses were given away last year.

“Last year was so successful, we helped so many girls,” Hope 21 director Lisa Swartz said.

Hope 21 Ministry is located on the third floor of the Transit Building, and the ministry has been providing free clothes, shoes and fellowship for the past six years.

The ministry’s last event in the Transit Building will be the A Dress For You giveaway as the boutique is looking for a new location and will be temporarily closed until one is found, Swartz said.

Monday is the last day Hope 21 will be open for regular hours in the Transit Building.

Swartz said Hope 21 won’t be accepting donations for the boutique after the end of February until the new location is found, but the ministry will continue to accept donations for the Dress For You Event.

In the meantime, while the boutique is closed, Swartz said Hope 21 will still give out clothing on an emergency basis, such as in cases like fires or other disasters.
