The Appalachian Regional Commission awarded a $17,500 grant to Paint Township supervisors to fund a feasibility study for a Rail 66 Connector Trail. The study will explore a direct link between Paint Township Park and the Rail 66 section of the Knox and Kane Rail Trail, focusing on concept planning, management, maintenance, and financial feasibility. With $35,000 in combined ARC and local funding, a consultant will prepare deliverables including a trail concept plan, cost estimates, and an economic impact study, while also addressing legal and ownership questions. Officials hope the project will create a recreational hub, support local businesses, and provide an economical solution to Rail 66’s parking needs.
