Pet First Aid Class raises funds for dog park

Dr. Jennifer Fox discusses first aid at the Franklin Animal Clinic on Saturday. A fundraising dog bone leans against the wall marking the current amount at over $42,000 raised for the proposed dog park in Franklin.

Over 40 registered pet owners filled the rooms of Franklin Animal Clinic on Saturday for a Pet First Aid Class, which raised funds for the Franklin Rotary Dog Park project.

Veterinarians and staff of the animal clinic taught attendees the basics of how to respond to conditions like heatstroke, nosebleeds and injuries requiring bandages.

Participants had the opportunity to ask questions in the small groups at the two different afternoon sessions.

Everyone also went home with a pet first-aid handbook with information about how to respond to a variety of pet health concerns, as well as contact information for regional pet emergency centers.

The event raised money for the Franklin Rotary’s proposed dog park near Miller-Sibley Park in Franklin. The dog park project has more than $42,000 of about $110,000 in required funds so far.
