Poster contest winners honored

Each year the Garden Club of Clarion County sponsors participating county schools for the Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl poster contests. The posters are judged locally and awarded first, second and third place for each classroom. The first place posters are then sent for judging at the state level. Two North Clarion Elementary School students won the state contest for their grade level this year. Pennsylvania State Champion for the first grade Woodsy Owl Poster Contest is Rainee Reed-Wonderling, third from left, and Pennsylvania State Champion for second grade is Harlow Siegel, fifth from left. An award assembly was held at the school May 7 with special guest Smokey Bear. Garden Club representatives, from left, Rosie Lawrence, Lee Ann Ishman and Deborah Lauer presented ribbons to awardees and provided certificates for all participating students.
