A team of Franklin High School students won first place in a Propaganda tournament last week at Slippery Rock University.

While playing Propaganda, players learn to recognize techniques of persuasion that are often used by advertisers, politicians, editorial writers and in normal human interaction.

The team named In Memory Of The Superteam was composed of seniors Maddy Bush, Kiaran Rios, Adam Taylor and Trevor Wood and junior Sam Burchfield; they competed against 16 other teams.

The individual scores of Wood and Rios and the team victory for Bush sealed the bid for these students to attend the National Academic Games Tournament to be held in April in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Wood’s younger brother, Tyler, will also be attending nationals with his individual score.

Two additional teams participated in Wednesday’s tournament.

The middle division team, Franklin Dragons, was recognized with certificates for their sixth place team in the 34-team field.

The team members were Alyssa Shick, Rosie Ferraro, Christina Bullard, Adam Luther and Robbie Moffitt.

The junior division team, The Franklin Knights, won fifth place and was made up of of Tyler Wood, Tyler Walkowski, Chris Bullard and reigning national champion in Propaganda, David Ferraro.

Ferraro and Shick were also recognized Thursday as being within the top 10 percent of Propaganda players.

The Academic Games will continue in December with an English/grammar game known as Linguishtick.
