Public input sought for second OC library staircase mural

From staff reports

Local artist and Woods and River Coffee co-owner Marcy Hall is asking the community to give input and work together on the creation of an upcoming permanent public art project at the Oil City Library.

Two public meetings will be held in the Oil City Library’s community room where people can hear more about Hall’s project — a mural to be applied to the Front Street steps leading into the library.

The meetings are scheduled at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, and again at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18.

Participants at the meetings will have the opportunity to brainstorm themes and share ideas for the mural, help plan the design, and eventually help apply the mural on the steps.

The community project, funded by a grant from Erie Arts and Culture, follows the success of Hall’s commissioned painting of book spines on the steps of the Central Avenue entrance of the library in summer 2022.

Hall said she is “looking forward” to working with the public on the project and encourages them to “show up, create, and have fun.”
