Registration open for Nature Art Showcase

The Council on Greenways and Trails will host the second annual Nature Art Showcase Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3-4, inside the Barrow-Civic Theatre lobby during Franklin On Ice.  The public will be able to view a wide variety of art works which depict natural and outdoor recreational settings and activities found within Clarion, Crawford and Venango counties.

Last year’s inaugural event at the same location included 2-D and 3-D visual items such as paintings, drawings, sculptures in wood and metal, fabric arts, photography, jewelry, pottery, coasters, woodburned items, woodcarving, watercolor and mixed media pieces.  No admission fees are charged to the public and there is no registration fee for participating artists.  Each artist may provide up to three pieces with the artist determining whether to make the item available for on-site purchase or not.

The Nature Art Showcase will be open for public visitation starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, with a public reception which many of the participating artists will attend.

During the reception, the council will announce which items have been selected for future reproduction and retail sales to promote the area’s outdoor resources.  The showcase will reopen from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4.  Artists must preregister no later than Tuesday, Jan. 17, in order for their information to be included in the complimentary exhibition booklet which will be provided to all attendees.

Detailed artist registration instructions and forms are available online at www.nwpagreenways.org.  Inquiries may also be directed to Marilyn Black, treasurer of the Council on Greenways and Trails, at the Oil Region Alliance office, at 677-3152, Ext. 105 or by emailing mblack@oilregion.org.

Those attending will be able to vote for a People’s Choice award, which is a handmade sunflower vase provided courtesy of Campbell’s Pottery.

The Council on Greenways and Trails is comprised of municipalities, agencies, and non-profit entities which manage or advocate for year-round recreational use of natural resources in Venango, Crawford and Clarion counties.
