Relay for Life schedules organizational meetings

From staff reports

The Venango County Relay for Life is holding organizational meetings for those interested in becoming part of the annual event in 2020.

The meetings will be held at 6 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at UPMC Seneca Place, according to a news release from the group.

The relay is held annually on behalf of cancer survivors and their families.

Chris Latchaw, a volunteer for the relay, said this year’s Relay for Life is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. May 30.

The survivor/caregiver dinner will be held at 6 p.m. following the track events. A celebration lap will follow, and the luminaria ceremony will begin at dark, the release said.

Latchaw said a new addition to the event this year will be the distribution of a 14-inch metal lantern with LED candle and name plaque in honor or in memory of a loved one. These will be displayed at the relay and then can be taken home.

A first responder’s lap and military honor lap is also in the works, Latchaw said.

Anyone interested in becoming part of Relay for Life can contact Nikki Carey at nikki.carey@cancer.org or (724) 834-9081, Ext. 85289.
