Repair work to begin on rock net along Rt. 8

Work to repair portions of the rock fall protection net on Route 8 in Oil City is scheduled to begin Monday.

The rock fall protection net hangs along the hillside from near the intersection of Route 8 (Main Street) and Relief Street and ends about 777 feet north of the intersection of Route 8 and Center Street.

The project will include repairs and partial replacement of the existing net, construction of a 50-inch retaining wall along the southbound side of the roadway, and removal of loose rocks and debris within the work area.

The contractor is Francis J. Palo Inc. of Clarion. The contract cost is $263,586, which is to be paid entirely with state funds.

Work is expected to be completed by Sept. 9.

A southbound lane restriction will be in place during the length of the project.

PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and pay attention to signs and flaggers.
