Sip and Shop to continue in Franklin until end of year

Sip & Shop is continuing in Franklin this weekend after Franklin City Council approved expanding and extending the program until the end of the year.

While originally set to last through the summer and expire Sept. 2, the open container law limited exception that allowed Sip & Shop to take place was extended by council at two special public meetings last month.

The program, which allows shoppers to purchase beer, wine or malt beverages in special single-use cups and carry them into participating retail businesses within a designated area, will take place Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

This will continue every week until the end of the year, with the exception of any day when a parade is scheduled, during Applefest, Witch Walk, Wine Walk, or Franklin Light Up Night.

In addition, the designated area has been expanded to include both sides of 12th Street between Liberty and Buffalo streets as opposed to one side only, and also to include both sides of 13th Street between Liberty and Otter streets as well as the west side of West Park Street between Liberty and Elk streets.

The designated area continues to include Liberty Street between 12th and 13th streets, on both sides of the street.

Consumption of alcoholic beverages continues to be prohibited in city parks and parking lots.
