The Oil City Arts Council will host the Slab Furnace Roadies in concert Friday, Jan. 13, at part of its Winter Concert Series.

The local bluegrass group will take the stage from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Great Room, located on the first floor of the National Transit Building at 206 Seneca St., Oil City.

The Slab Furnace Roadies is an eclectic band of local musicians from Venango County. Members range in age from 15 to 50, they play music based on bluegrass, old-time, folk and grunge.

They have been the opening act at the Oil Country Bluegrass Festival for the past two years, but many folks may recognize these friends from their individual work in other local projects and shows.

Members of the group include Ken Hall, Dr. Brad Kendzior, Tanner Fell, Julian Fell and Brad Fell.

The band submitted the following colorful commentary biography to the Oil City Arts Council:

Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ken Hall is not an accordion player. Nevertheless, he has played accordion with the Roadies for the past two years. He is also fantastic on piano and plays upside-down guitars and basses.

Dr. Brad Kendzior is also not an accordion player. His talents are orthodontics and the electric bass. It is a really well-played, funkadelic electric bass which is perfect for bluegrass.

Tanner Fell has been playing with some version of the Roadies since 2008. She focuses on vocals and cello. We’re not sure why she hangs out with these guys, the biography said. A senior at Cranberry High School, she will attend Penn State this coming fall.

Julian Fell has been with the Slab Furnace Roadies for two years or maybe a little longer. He plays drums and guitar, and helps Kendzior form the rhythm section of the band. Julian Fell is in 10th grade at Cranberry High School

Brad Fell has been annoying people with his banjo playing for the past 35 years. He also plays guitar at higher class events. He is a local physician and the father of Tanner and Julian.

Tickets prices are $10 per person for non-members and $8 per ticket for arts council members. Tickets for the performance or multiple performances may be purchased at the door.
