St. Stephen School holding Red Ribbon Week activities

From staff reports

Students at St. Stephen Elementary School in Oil City are participating in the Oct. 23-31 observance of Red Ribbon Week.

The week is designed for individuals and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs.

The St. Stephen students wore as much red as possible on Wednesday for the first day of Red Ribbon Week, and on Thursday they watched a movie about making good decisions.

Today is “crazy hair day” for the students, and they will also discuss in their classes the dangers of drugs.

Next week, the students will take their favorite stuffed animal to school Monday and discuss kindness with their classes. Tuesday is “crazy sock day”, and students will discuss peer pressure in their classes.

Students can wear a hat to school on Wednesday, and they will eat lunch with their guardian angels.

Red Ribbon Week will wrap up Thursday. Officer Phil will give a presentation to students in grades kindergarten through three, and other students will head to the Barrow-Civic Theatre in Franklin for a production of “Doo Wop Wed Widing Hood” by the Franklin Civic Operetta’s Advanced Youth Theatre.

Students will also receive Red Ribbon-related items each day during the week such as bracelets, pencils and stickers.
