Student crafts, donates pillows to cancer patients

Vera Heferle, a student at East Forest High School and member of FCCLA, is making a difference for cancer patients by handcrafting and donating port pillows—small cushions that provide comfort for those with chemotherapy ports. With community support, she has donated 600 pillows to local cancer centers, the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge, and the National Children’s Cancer Society’s Global Outreach Program, reaching patients in 53 countries. Inspired by the struggles of cancer patients, Heferle hopes her efforts bring comfort and support, emphasizing the power of small acts of kindness.
