Students honored by Franklin CDA chapter

Students who were honored for their winning entries in an education contest sponsored by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Thomas chapter in Franklin included (front, from left) Amelia Merkel, Alivia Warner, Josephine Elder, Olive Toto, Natalie Rodgers, Lauralie Lander, Beatrice Popescu, Joanna Singh, (back, from left) Nora Morrison, Nadia Morrison and Henry Phillips.

Several students were recognized at a recent picnic for their winning entries in an education contest sponsored by Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Thomas of St. Patrick Parish in Franklin.

First-, second- and third-place winners and their families were invited to the CDA end-of-year picnic, and the winners shared their winning poem, art, essay or computer art.

The students were from either St. Stephen Elementary School in Oil City, Venango Catholic High School or are home schooled.

They were divided into division I (grades 4-5), division II (grades 6-8) and division III (9-12).

The winners in each category were:

Art, division 1 — Amelia Merkel, first; Joanna Singh, second; Natalie Rodgers, third

Computer art, division 1 — Evan Huber, first

Essay, division 1 — Lauralie Lander, first

Poetry, division 1 — Beatrice Popescu, first

Art, division 2 — Madeleine Deal, first; Kasey Cross, second; Josephine Elder, third

Essay, division 2 — Abigail Lander, first; Olive Toto, second

Poetry, division 2 — Erin Heckathorne, first; Cecelia Rigg, second; Henry Phillips, third
