Sugarcreek agrees to support sensory space at Reno playground

At the recent Sugarcreek Borough Council meeting, members agreed to support a proposal for a dedicated sensory area at Reno playground, initiated by Autism Stands founder Brandy Hinojosa, Venango County Commissioner Ken Bryan, and Reno Neighborhood Association chair Jessica Struthers. The sensory section aims to provide a safe and welcoming environment for individuals with special needs, with plans to include three to five sensory elements funded through grants and community contributions. The initiative seeks to integrate autistic individuals into the community and may expand to other playgrounds in Venango County. Additionally, the council introduced Nash Montgomery as the new full-time police officer, approved a $2,500 stipend for the emergency management coordinator, and a $250 donation for a memorial golf outing. They also announced a street closure for the Reno Volunteer Fire Department’s car cruise and rescheduled their July meeting to July 3, preceded by a Community Development Block Grant hearing.
