Sugarcreek Council votes to remove foot bridge

Sugarcreek Borough Council members were presented with two solutions during their meeting Wednesday regarding concerns raised by Venango Water Sewage owner Kevin Rhodes about a water line crossing a culvert.

The line is located at Transit Street behind Dr. Leon Kulinski’s dental office.

Rhodes brought up his concerns at last month’s council meeting, and council was told Wednesday the borough could either take a foot bridge out, which would cost the borough nothing, or replace the foot bridge with a new one at a cost of $127,429.

Council voted to take out the foot bridge.

In other business at Wednesday’s meeting, police chief Bob Wenner said the Allegheny Valley Trails Association requested that lost or stolen bicycles at the police department that haven’t been picked up or placed be donated to the Trails Association.

The group would then refurbish the bikes and get them to Community Services of Venango County and to kids who need or want bicycles.

Council approved the request.

Council also approved Reno Volunteer Fire Department’s annual request for a $25,000 donation from the borough along with $2,000 toward the auto insurance.

And maintenance foreman Doug Freer told council the cost to place a guardrail at the end of the Village Auto dealership to Coefields Corners would be $8,449.

Council approved installing the guardrail at that price as safety concerns at the location were mentioned.
