Sugarcreek police warn residents of ‘brushing’ scam

Sugarcreek Borough police have warned residents about a new scam called “brushing.” In this scam, people receive unsolicited packages with items they didn’t order, accompanied by a letter with instructions on how to return the items. The letter often includes a QR code or link, which, when scanned, allows scammers to access personal and banking information from the recipient’s phone. Police advise residents to contact the shipping company directly by phone or through their official website if they receive such a package and not to use the information provided in the letter.
