Time expires on Knox parking meters

Knox Borough Council has voted to remove its aging coin-operated parking meters, which officially expired Sept. 2, opting instead to maintain a three-hour parking limit in the business district. The move avoids the $100,000 cost of replacing broken or outdated meters that only generated about $4,000 annually. While the exact date for removal is undecided, council plans to enforce parking limits with police-issued tickets and cameras once installation logistics are finalized. Mayor Kirsten Wolfe said the change should make Main Street more inviting for visitors, while still preventing all-day parking. Council also set Halloween trick-or-treat hours for Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m.
