Titusville police now carrying naloxone

From staff reports

The Titusville Police Department started to carry naloxone in its vehicles Wednesday to assist medical personnel with early intervention and medical treatment for opioid overdoses.

The program is funded by grants through the Crawford County Overdose Prevention Committee, and the naloxone was delivered by representatives of Emergycare to the police department.

All officers received training as part of the annual training provided by the state.

Titusville police reported their first call Friday where administration of naloxone was necessary for lifesaving purposes due to a suspected heroin overdose.

Officers, assisted by members of the Titusville Fire Department and Emergycare, were successful in reversing the effects of the drug, police said.

Police remind the public of the dangers of illegal and even prescription narcotics, and urge those who may need help or know of someone who may need help to call the Titusville Police Department at (800) 223-3008.
