Titusville student club helping community

From staff reports

A dedicated group of Titusville High School student members of the THS Student United Way/Rotary Interact club worked last week to help the Titusville community.

On Wednesday, students spent the morning reading books to students at the Titusville Area School District PALS Club and at the YWCA Fun Factory. At both locations, students read a variety of age appropriate books to young learners.

After the reading session was over, the students were escorted to tables full of books for all reading levels, and each student student selected a book to take home.

The readers will visit the YMCA Tiny Footsteps and TFree next week.

Books were purchased through funds obtained through a grant from the John Nesbit Rees and Sarah Henne Rees Charitable Foundation. A committee of the Student United Way/Rotary Interact Club selected and ordered the books .

To continue the volunteer service, the group worked to spruce up the town before the Oil Festival activities.

The group met at the railroad underpass between the Ed Myer Complex and Drake Well to paint over unwanted graffiti. The students then went to Roberts Grove Park and painted over graffiti on the park building and gave a fresh coat of paint to the picnic tables at the park.

The student United Way/Rotary Interactors will be in action again today and Tuesday at the Stuff The Bus project at the Titusville Walmart.

Any Titusville students in grades 9 to 12 who are interested in participating should contact the United Way at (814) 827-1322.
