Truck crashes into Sandycreek Elementary; no one hurt

This work truck from Arbon Equipment Corp. crashed into the side of Sandycreek Elementary School at about 9:15 a.m. on Monday. Franklin state police said the driver had a medical episode before the crash.

No one was injured when a work truck from Arbon Equipment Corp. veered off Pone Lane and struck the side of Sandycreek Elementary School on Monday morning.

Students were in class when the incident occurred at about 9:15 a.m., Sandycreek Principal Joe Keenan told the newspaper.

Keenan added that the truck struck the nurses station area and that no one was there at the time.

The driver had a medical episode that caused him to crash the vehicle, said Franklin State Police trooper Evan Reed, who responded to the scene.

“We heard about it about a quarter past nine, and our emergency response team made sure everyone was safe.” Franklin Area School District Superintendent Eugene Thomas said.

Thomas told the newspaper engineers examined the damage and deemed the building safe, excluding a couple of areas that will be shored up.

Thomas said school will continue while the repair work is being done.

Emergency crews remained on the scene until about 12:45 p.m. Monday, according to Venango County 911. In addition to Franklin state police, those workers included Polk volunteer firefighters and Emergency Management Agency personnel.

Arbon Equipment has a regional office in Bridgeville in Allegheny County.
