Valley Grove board handles several business items

Valley Grove School Board approved a number of items at its combined work session and regular meeting Monday.

Two benches were donated to the Valley Grove Elementary School playground in honor of district employee Lily Krizon and teacher Jamie Jacoby.

The board unanimously approved the decision to seek bids on cafeteria furniture for Rocky Grove High School. The cafeteria benches and tables, said Superintendent Kevin Briggs, “have been there a long time and reached the end of their usefulness.” The estimated cost to replace the aged furniture is about $92,000.

The board unanimously approved course requests for Emily Sivak to get a total of 15 credits beyond her bachelor’s degree and will go toward additional certification. It also unanimously approved requests to send staff members Carrie Beightol, Chris Luxbacher, Kevin Weisenfluh, Amber Nolan-Johnston, and Brooke Emanuele to attend various conferences in their areas of expertise.

The board accepted a letter of decline for its intended candidate to fill the temporary Director of Federal and Supplemental Programs — a position created to oversee the administration of the district’s Elementary and Secondary School Relief funds.

Revision of the job description was also approved unanimously, said Briggs, to make it “not full time and more limited in scope,” in order to fill it for the short term. “We’ll evaluate what the needs are in the long term going forward,” said Briggs.

The board will conduct its reorganization and regular December board meeting Monday, Dec. 6, in the Rocky Grove High School library.
