2 charged with animal cruelty in wake of video

A Rouseville man and Franklin woman have been charged with animal cruelty related to a widely circulated video on social media showing abuse of a dog.

Gaven Rinker, 27, and Kalynn Kachik, 22, have both been charged with a summary count of cruelty to animals.

The Venango County sheriff’s office said in a press release the office received a video “depicting a dog being restrained by an individual and an alcoholic drink being poured into the mouth and throat of the dog, while another person recorded it on their phone.”

The press release didn’t identify who was filming and who was restraining the dog.

“Law enforcement agencies in Venango County received numerous complaints regarding this video, which was widely viewed on multiple social media sites,” the press release said.

The release added that “deputies acting as HSPOs (Humane Society Police Officers) conducted an investigation into the video. Through the course of the investigation the deputies were able to identify the individuals, location and dog involved in the incident. Deputies were also able to confirm that the liquid in the video was in fact an alcoholic drink.”

The Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole and the Venango County District Attorney’s Office assisted the sheriff’s Office.
