Charitable Deeds begins campaign for veterans

From staff reports

Charitable Deeds and Services, an all-volunteer group that provides services and assistance to residents in Venango, Clarion and Forest counties, has launched a campaign to help military veterans in the tri-county area.

A fundraiser will be held from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at the Wolf’s Den as part of the charity’s Veterans of the Armed Forces campaign.

Donations also are being collected and may be sent to Charitable Deeds and Services, 98 Hickory Nut Lane, Knox, 16232. Those sending money to Charitable Deeds for this campaign should mark the memo line at the bottom of their check with the word “veterans.”

One hundred percent of the donations plus the proceeds from the March 18 fundraiser will go to help area veterans, according to a press release from the charity. Charitable Deeds and Services has no operating expenses, administration fees or salaried workers, so all of the money raised will be used to help veterans, the press release said.

Besides helping veterans monetarily, the charity also aids them with food, clothing, furniture and appliances from what it has in stock.

Last year Charitable Deeds raised $43,098 for local veterans through this veterans’ campaign. The money was collected through donations, a fund-raising dinner and by selling raffle tickets.

The group also teamed with Clarion University to sell furniture that was saved from the demolished Wilkinson and Nair halls on the college campus.
