Titusville woman scammed

From staff reports

A 78-year-old Titusville woman was scammed for $2,000 Friday afternoon.

According to Franklin police, the woman received a phone call from someone claiming to be her grandson. The caller told her that the grandson had been involved in an accident and was stuck in jail.

The caller instructed the woman to obtain four Wal-Mart gift cards in the amount of $500 and to forward the gift card numbers to the grandson’s attorney via a number they provided.

She read off the gift card numbers to what she believed was her grandson’s attorney.

She was later called back, with the caller asking for another $3,000. She said didn’t have any more money and the caller hung up.
