Family of slain pregnant woman says alleged boy killer free

NEW CASTLE (AP) — The family of a pregnant Pennsylvania woman who was slain along with her unborn son in 2009 says the alleged killer, who was 11 at the time, has been released from a juvenile detention center.

Debra Houk, the mother of 26-year-old Kenzie Houk, and other relatives confirmed Monday’s decision by a Lawrence County judge.

They say Jordan Brown, who is now 18, was released after a juvenile court hearing that was closed to the public, but open to some of the slain woman’s relatives and Brown’s family.

Brown was charged as a juvenile and adjudicated delinquent — the juvenile court equivalent of guilty — for shooting Houk, his father’s pregnant fiancee. Brown denies that and has appealed the verdict.

His attorney, Dennis Elisco, said Monday’s ruling was “favorable.”
