Franklin man accused of endangering young son

A Franklin man is facing charges for endangering his nine-month-old son when he and the child’s mother got into a fight while they both were intoxicated.

Franklin police said in a criminal complaint they responded Feb. 16 to a residence in the 100 block of Buffalo Street where Matthew Abrams, 20, was observed shirtless with recent injuries to his torso and under the influence of alcohol.

Abrams admitted that he had been drinking shots of tequila and that he and the mother of his infant son, Kassondra Hagan, 20, who was also intoxicated, were arguing about getting more alcohol when the argument turned into a physical fight, the complaint said.

Hagan attacked Abrams, who was holding the baby, in an attempt to get the baby from him but instead this caused Abrams to drop the child, who fell about a foot to the floor, the complaint said.

Adams then tried to restrain Hagan around the waist to keep her from getting the baby, but she bit him which caused him to let her go, the complaint said.

Hagan then gathered up the child and ran from the house, the complaint said.

Abrams has been charged with a felony count of endangering the welfare of children and a misdemeanor count of purchase alcoholic beverages by a minor.

He was arraigned Friday before district judge Matthew Kirtland and placed in the Venango County jail after being unable to post bail.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled Wednesday in Central Court.

Hagan was previously charged with a felony count of endangering the welfare of children, a misdemeanor count of simple assault and summary counts of harassment, disorderly conduct and purchase alcohol by a minor.

She waived her hearing on those charges Wednesday in Central Court.
