Legion to host Veterans Day program in OC

The James M. Henderson Oil City American Legion post is sponsoring the Veterans Day program in Oil City on Saturday.

The ceremonies will start at 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot at Veterans Memorial Bridge with the Venango Veterans Honor Guard leading veterans, friends and the Oil City High School marching band in the walk over the bridge to Central Avenue.

The procession will stop at the center of the bridge to honor U.S. Navy and Marine Corps dead with flowers and Taps.

The program will start at 11 a.m. when the Christ Episcopal Church bells chime.

The featured speaker will be Clay Campbell, a Vietnam and Marine Corps veteran. Taps will be played with a salute by the Legion post cannon and the flag lowered to half staff.

Wreaths will be placed by local organizations.

The Oil City marching band will provide the music for the program. The flag will be raised to full staff at the close of the program with music by the band.
