‘Shrek the Musical’ starts Thursday at OCHS

From staff reports

Oil City High School will present its 49th annual musical production, “Shrek the Musical”, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday in the high school auditorium.

“Shrek the Musical” is described as being a one-of-a-kind, hilarious fairytale in which curses are reversed, monsters get the girls, donkeys and dragons find love and princesses are beautiful in all shapes and sizes.

Shrek (Spencer Greene) lives alone in his swamp, and the world is fearful and mocking of him, and he is more than happy to leave the world to itself.

His hermit existence is suddenly thrown open when a group of homeless fairy tale characters — Pinocchio (Olivia Vorse), the Gingerbread Man (Jazz Buzard), the Three Little Pigs (Kayla Fagley, Lillie Scalise, Mackenzie Canaan) and more — burst upon his swamp, seeking refuge from the persecution of Lord Farquaad (Matthew Myers).

Shrek seeks out Farquaad, who tells him if Shrek rescues Princess Fiona (Hannah Krug), who Farquaad wishes to marry for her crown, then Farquaad will ensure the return of Shrek’s swamp by returning the fairy tale creatures to their homes.

He travels to Princess Fiona’s prison, rescues her from a fire-breathing dragon (Liberty Rickenbach), and then is forced to get to know the princess as he tries to bring her back to Farquaad.

Fiona is very different from what Shrek expected a princess to be, and she may even provoke Shrek’s most novel experience yet — love.

Doors open at 7 p.m. each night, and tickets may be purchased at the door. All tickets are $8, and all seating is general admission.

Flowers will be available for purchase each night.
